Is this genuine payment, or just a sales pitch?
There is a real market. Our licensing partner says it has paid firms with 60 to 100 people between $350,000 and $650,000. Google's $10 million winning bid for Spirit Airlines' records appears in a federal court filing. These transactions involved other firms, not us. You receive your offer in writing before making any commitment, and plenty of firms receive offers below these amounts.
What will I have to pay?
Nothing at any point. When a deal closes, our licensing partner pays Pewter a fee. No deal means no fee.
Who handles each part, and who is your client?
Pewter identifies and qualifies the opportunity, assesses your records, presents the offer and coordinates the deal. The licensing partner makes the offer, signs the license with you and pays you. You find out its identity before signing anything. Since the partner pays our fee, we don't act as your lawyer or agent. We aren't a law firm or registered broker-dealer, and recommend that your own counsel review the agreement.
Will the data leave my control?
No. You license an agreed de-identified copy. Your original files stay yours, and your ownership remains unchanged.
Could clients or employees be identified?
Before delivery, names, contact details, account numbers, credentials and payment details are removed or replaced. You may exclude regulated, privileged or third-party records. Every method leaves some risk, so you review both the process and a sample before signing. Our approach to records.
Can anyone see my records before I sign?
Only with your agreement. We might request a small sample to assess quality before an offer, and Pewter or the licensing partner may review it. You decide what the sample contains and may decline. The full export only takes place after you sign.
Who gets to use the data, and how?
Authorized AI developers may use it to train and evaluate models, as specified in your agreement. Your approved terms spell out exclusivity and permitted uses. Our free owner's guide, Before You Sell Your Data, outlines the terms and questions to resolve before signing.
How much time will my team need to spend?
You'll spend a few hours on two or three calls and a brief inventory of your systems. If an export is required, your IT person or provider runs it, with us coordinating. No one needs to create new data or tidy anything up.
What if I don't know what data we have?
That's true for most owners. Tell us which tools you've used over time, such as email, shared drives or your accounting or operating system, and we'll figure out what's there during the call. If you prefer to estimate it first, our complimentary guide explains where to find the numbers in Google, Microsoft 365, Slack and twelve other tools.
Why move forward now?
Labs are purchasing today. A single AI data company has committed $1 billion for the coming twelve months. The value is in the history you still hold: lapsed subscriptions or a firm shutting down can lead to deleted archives and lost value.
